Sarki/Mijar (Nepali: सार्की is a Khas. The 1854 Nepalese Muluki Ain (Legal Code) categorized Sarki as category. Sarki are categorized under “Hill Dalit” among the 9 broad social groups, along with DamaiBadiKami and Gaine by the Government of Nepal. They are found in the region of the Himalayas and referred to in the Nepali and Thakali languages. In the rigid Hindu caste system of Sikkim they are treated as being a polluting community.

According to 2011 Nepal census, Sarki make up 1.4% of Nepal’s population (or 374,816 peoples).
